This is the Holy Grail of examples for how great and powerful human mind is. Every medicine that it is created needs to be compared with the placebo effect and only the ones that are significantly more effective gets to be produced (after they get through multiple other tests, obviously).
“A placebo is a substance or treatment of no intended therapeutic value. Common placebos include inert tablets (like sugar pills), inert injections (like saline), sham surgery, and other procedures. […] They have no effect on disease, but at most only affect some people’s subjective judgment of their symptoms. Sometimes they can make people feel better, and sometimes worse – in which case they are termed a nocebo.” – Wikipedia
As you can see, a placebo has no actual physical effect. The only effect it has is on people’s minds. If a high authority tells you that you can get better drinking a glass full with water that has some active substance in it, you might get better if you truly believe it, even if it’s just water.
So our mind can get sh*t done if we truly believe we can do it. It will find a way no matter what. The most difficult part is for us to convince ourselves we can do it. Have you noticed that sometimes when someone tells us we can do whatever we set our minds to, we just ignore that person? We do it because we don’t have enough trust in ourselves and because we think we’re too small to make an impact in this world. But we’re not alone, as Jordan Peterson said, we’re a node in this society. We’re connected with so many people that if we can have an impact on some, they will have an impact on others and so on until everything changes… like a wave on water.
“Aim for the moon. If you miss, you may hit a star.” – W. Clement Stone
