Movie Thoughts – The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)

Movie Thoughts   This movie is a movie about a stock broker who uses his skills to persuade other people in his own interest (you can find out more about it here). It’s based on the true life Jordan Belfort had in his youth.

It is really interesting to see what people are willing to do for money and with money. And don’t get me wrong, there is nothing bad about them. The problem is when we combine money with a lack of moral principles. That’s when people do crazy sh*t. I guess that capitalism did a great job in enslaving us. Too bad this is so powerful that we forget why money was created.

I’ve heard lots of successful people talking about how money can enhance the true identity of a person. If deep down we are bad, money makes us worse. If we deep down we are good, money makes us better. It’s like a magnifying glass. And when I say deep down, I mean really deep. We might wear a certain mask in public and if we wear it too much, we might start to believe that’s how we are. Money will bring that mask down revealing the true self.

Maybe we’re obeying to law and rules because we have no choice. Well, money helps with that. We’ve all seen examples of people that could bend the rules with the money they had. The Money and the “right” people is all that they needed.

You know what’s funny? That after Jordan experienced all that he could with money, he started to realize the fact that it was all wrong and that money should be used to help people. But with what cost? Ok, maybe he didn’t killed others for money or things like that, but what if he did? He could have done it. Others do. We have, as a society, a serious lack of understanding about money and in the same time a huge desire to have as many as we can. Because of this, some of us are prepared to do whatever it takes to get them, anything but tons of work. It’s easier to steal them that to work from 6 AM to 12 PM.

  1. I had seen it like 3 years ago and to this day is one of my favorites. It shows quite well what money to do a person who doesn’t know to manage them properly.

  2. I literally just pressed publish on my latest blog piece and it was about movies. Lol. I couldn’t believe the coincidence when I saw that you just wrote about a movie too…Haha.

I have seen the “Wolf of Wall Street” and I enjoyed it immensely. Hard to believe it is a true story especially since the characters are so vile and greedy, who underhandedly deceived so many to get ahead. Entertaining movie, nonetheless.

  3. I watched it, loved it. Makes us really think about what greediness can do to people, when enough is bnever enough. I was so pissed of when the main character left his first wife for the bimbo. Amazing acting by Leo as Always. The older he gets, the better, Don’t you think ?
