  1. When I did a college placement at a disability day centre for adults, I mentored one man in his 50s who has severe learning difficulties. He could write the first letter of his name and that is all he had managed to do in his whole life. I went in early everyday and dedicated time to him and after 6 months he had learned how to write the second letter of his name too. It melted my heart ! 🙂

  2. Cannot say… with everyone being different in their own way, the same act of kindness might mean something different with each individual… I expect the kindest were being kind to begin with… 🙂

    “For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others;
For beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness,
And for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.”
    Audrey Hepburn

    1. This is my thinking too. What might be no big deal to one person, could be life changing for another. Having said that, forgiving someone who hurt me as a child, is the kindest thing I have done for myself.

      1. Then I cannot answer the question… i am doing it for the other… 🙂

“When a friend is in trouble, don’t annoy the friend by asking if there is anything you can do. Think up something appropriate and do it.” E. W. Howe

      2. “You have been my friend. That in itself is a tremendous thing. After all, what’s a life, anyway? We’re born, we live a little while, we die. By helping you, perhaps I was trying to lift up my life a trifle. Goodness knows anyone’s life can stand a little of that.” E.B. White, Charlotte’s Web

  3. Once, when I was working at a mall in my 20’s, I saw an older lady who seemed in some distress: pale and out of breath. I got a wheelchair and took her to the doctor. It turned out to be her heart and she called me about a week later, from the hospital, post-surgery, to thank me for saving her life.

  4. I perform random acts of kindness all of the time. My preference is to do it anonymously. I will tell you the most recent kind thing I did. My daughter has been telling me for a while that she was to have a session in a sensory deprivation float tank. She has been suffering from daily migraines and seizure activity for an very long time on top of the stress of her 2 daughters being in and out of the hospital for chronic childhood pancreatitis. She would like to see if the 90 minute float experience will help her de-stress enough to keep from having a break down. Only, she is unable to afford it. There was a Halloween party she went to that had a costume contest. One of the prizes was a float session. She was hoping to win it; but, didn’t. So, I surprised her with a gift certificate for the entire cost of one.

  5. I tried to pay off the library balance for one of my students. I wasn’t able too, so I bought the book and had it in my classroom library. I was willing to pay off the balances of all my students but for whatever reason couldn’t.

  6. Give food to random cats on the street that look malnourished. Most just want treats because they’re wild and there’s plenty of rodents and such to hunt

      1. Sure, as I get to work and park my car, I am walking out of the parking garage and notice a lady behind me on the phone and coffee in the other hand, I hold the door for her. I get upstairs and punch in, I’m a PICU nurse and my responsibility is the patient but as the mother is stressed and wants to vent, I sit there and listen to her story (which has nothing to do with my patient). I had a student with me, following me, but her other 4 classmates approached me and asked me to teach them on a certain patient, so of course I do. I could have sat anywhere to chart but I chose to sit next to the nurse who is bullied and teased all the time. This is just by 11am, idk it is in the simple things. Kindness doesn’t have to be a grand gesture.

  7. How kind of everyone to participate in my question!😁😁😁 💜💜💜 Thank you!!
I’ve done random acts of kindness over the years, but one in particular I did for a friend of mine. We weren’t friends at the time it happened, just classmates. We had the same business communications(English) teacher, and because English wasn’t my friend’s first language although she spoke fluently, the teacher decimated her assignments. My friend asked me one day after class if I could help her with the assignment because she could never ask our teacher. She also told me that our teacher told her “If you can’t do this simple assignment, then maybe you should go back to kindergarten.” Total lack of empathy for a foreign student smh. So, I helped proofread her paper, and she got a good grade on it.

  8. No idea what the kindest thing is, but a friend here in Bulgaria was offered a job interview in the UK. The company would pay for the tickets but only after the interview and she couldn’t afford it. This where my Amex comes in 😀

    1. It is so great of you that you help out your friends! Very few of our friends really are our friends and only the toughest times can show us which one is really our friend.

  9. This is still raw for me . . . I put my dog dog three months ago. I know he probably would have lived a while longer, but I was watching him suffer; coughing, dementia, weight lose, going to the bathroom in the apartment, and so on. I could see the pain in his eyes and I could stand to see him that way. He was a devoted pet for 11 years. When you love a pet and they are in pain, the kindest thing to do is say goodbye, but that doesn’t make it easy.

    1. It’s always hard saying goodbye to someone you love. Seven years ago, my dog passed away at the age of 6 mos. I remember how it sat with us for a long time after that. But hang on to those memories of him, talk about him often.

  10. I wandered around the city at night with my friends, carrying some food package and gave them to the homeless people. We used to do it every Thursday and Saturday night before I moved away

  11. I do kind things all the time. I once found a woman sat on a wall crying…turned out she’d just been evicted, made homeless and had nowhere to go, no one to turn to, etc. I let her stay with me for a few weeks rent free while she sorted her life out. That’s probably the kindest thing, if only because she was a stranger.
