This movie is about a world where time is used as a currency instead of money (you can find more about it here). It is so interesting and f*cked up, that I’d like to live in it. It combines the hunger for money we have with the lack of time. Wouldn’t it be interesting if we would get paid with time instead of us being paid with money? Because that’s what we actually spend in our life and we can never get back. That’s what it actually matters.
The fact that you can actually see when you’re going to die if you do nothing about it is really scary, but I believe it can also be very motivating. Of course there is a system in place which is controlled by some fat cats, but that’s not the point. That’s just pure greed. It seems that only when we know we have so little of it, we can actually start to appreciate time. And this applies to everything. When we know that something is close to an end, we start appreciating it. Humans are strange.
I don’t remember how they got to have this system, but it’s sicker than this capitalistic one we’re living in right now. It’s a great way to keep constant the number of people. Even though there is enough time out there, only a few control it. That’s a world where literally every second matters. Do we really need to be limited so we can enjoy each minute?
Anyway, it’s a great movie and it really made me think about the way I live my life. What do you think about this movie?
I think it was a great movie too! And I remember it scared me so much! But it teaches a very important lesson and it is high time we understood it!
Yeah, it’s a pretty scary concept. But I believe we can learn many things from it.
I enjoyed the movie. Time is money, literally in this dystopian future.
This applies in our world too, but in a more indirect way. Bottom line, time is limited. The quality of our life is decided by the quality of our time.

If we really think about it, time is currency in our world too, but in a different way. We offer our time and effort and we get money which we spend to have some nice time when we’re not at work.
I will put it on my watchlist. In the meantime, I will explain what being paid time instead of money was like for me.
When I worked for the County of San Diego, we were always over loaded with work that couldn’t be done in the 40 hours per week we had. The County offered us overtime on Saturdays. However, we were told that there was no funding in the budget to pay us money. So, they offered us Comp Time; which, could be used for vacation upon approval.
We hated this. We had to decide whether we wanted to get the current backlog caught up and meet deadlines or avoid the extra pile of work that would be waiting for us when we got back due there being no coverage on our workload while we were on vacation.
Many of us chose to meet the deadlines and suffer the anxiety of knowing what would be waiting for us after the time off.
Then, there was the issue of being able to actually use the Comp Time as it had to be requested at least 2 weeks in advance and it could only be used if approved.
So you were paid with time. That’s very interesting. Too bad that you still had to do that amount of work anyway.
Yeah, it was very frustrating and anxiety provoking.
I loved the movie…the concept was amazing and so was the delivery…and I feel the same way about living there too…
Yeah… in that world we would spend time to get time. In this world we spend time to get money… I don;t think it’s a fair exchange.
Good: High marks for the originality of story line and Justin Timberlake’s acting, which surprised me. Clever lines that (somehow) did not come across as predictable: Getting the “upper hand;” “thank you for your time;” “Got a minute.”
Weak: Too many scenes “beat the clock” by seconds. While the chase scenes and chase themes were somewhat original, they were still Hollywood chase scenes that were distractions from the thought-provoking aspects of the film.
Comparison: “In Time” is a good action piece that is thoughtful. “Primer” is a time-travel movie I recommend for more contemplation, though less action.
IMDB rating 6.7. It was 7 out of 10 for me, and means I think it is worth your “time” to watch it. 🙂
