“Success is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm.” – Winston Churchill
But how? What can we do to keep our enthusiasm whenever we encounter some sort of failure or when we make mistakes? How can we handle all those negative emotions like guilt and shame? I believe this is actually the key for success (in this context, I’m referring to success as the feeling of fulfillment in a certain area of life; like family, friends, career, money or others).
A mistake is necessary because it brings a lesson. So the more we do, the more lessons we learn. It’s obvious that it’s not easy because if it was, everybody would be successful, but you know what? Everybody that is successful made mistakes along the way. It’s a requirement. It’s like fire for barbeque. Success (in the definition above) cannot come without mistakes. However, we keep running away from mistakes because we think we cannot handle the negative feelings and other people’s judgement. But we do because we’re strong. We just have a weak mindset that doesn’t allow us believe we’re strong. Moreover, a mistake brings a challenge that is either for handling our own emotions or for handling the judgement. Or maybe it’s a challenge for our creativity and for our problem-solving ability.
The people that went through lots of mistakes recommend us to change our relationship with mistakes because mistakes bring some sort of value in our life.
What is your relationship with the idea of making mistakes?
Oh my. I will have to dig through my archives and find that post I wrote about mistakes! Which I wrote in response to something I read on this same site lol
Awesome! I’m looking forward to see it! 😀
I might post them on this page in stead of on mine. 🙂 my life is a lifetime of mistakes and as a teacher, I am all about making everything a teachable moment!!!! Hahaha
Oh wow this is marvellous! I needed this right now to keep me going. Thank you. Katie x
Thank you for taking your time to read and I love that it helps you! 😀
Oh it does!
Dealing with mistakes and failure is something I have had trouble with especially. It’s the cornerstone for my anxiety disorder to be honest. I’m glad people are starting to point out how necessary it is.
It is! I fear those too sometimes but then I remember that all great people did it and that’s why they are so great!
Mistakes are the stepping stones of life. I make them daily but keep plodding along because I believe in myself that some day success will prevail. Good piece, i enjoyed it!
Thank you! That is a great view about mistakes! I’m glad you’ve shared it!
Mistakes and failures are paramount to success .. you need to experience a bit on the bottom before reaching the top!! And yes failures allow you to seek the lesson.. something should be learned from a failure or mistake so you grow through what you go through!!! I was a big resistor of myself.. I had to make a lot of mistakes and be vulnerable and acknowledge myself as being in a fucked up period of my life.. but that was it.. just a small part of my life I spent there not my whole life and it’s not permanent people can change only when they are ready and they have to want to change.. you can’t change anybody… they do it for themselves and the benefit of those around them when they can see that far 😉
Of course! We cannot change people! We can only show them a different perspective, but it’s their decision of they want to change based on it or not.
I would rather avoid making mistakes. They are a part of being human, though. I just work on being a better me than I was yesterday.
What’s the worst thing about making mistakes?
