I am really not sure… Probably, because nobody likes to feel judged. I think constructive opinions give people the choice to change and if they do change, they do it to better themselves not for others; whereas destructive critiquing tears a person down, making them feel obligated to change immediately, even if such changes may not be good for them.

Intent is important but so is content. If all you are doing is analysing what is wrong with a piece of work without giving any pointers for improvement or highlighting what has worked well then it is likely to be destructive.

True! The thing is that those who keep analyzing what’s wrong with a piece of work probably have no idea how to make it better.
