Quotes are my Fuel

For me, quotes are great reminders of how beautiful life is and how others managed to extract the essence of it in so many multiple forms. Sometimes posts cannot be as efficient as a handful of quotes, therefore today I’m letting the essence flow through this blog.

“Our life is shaped by our mind, for we become what we think.” – Buddha

“If you want to conquer the anxiety of life, live in the moment, live in the breath.” – Amit Ray

“We only have now, only this single eternal moment opening and unfolding before us, day and night.” – Jack Kornfield

“Respond; don’t react. Listen; don’t talk. Think; don’t assume.” – Raji Lukkoor

“As soon as we wish to be happier, we are no longer happy.” – Walter Landor

“Suffering usually relates to wanting things to be different than they are.” – Allan Lokos

“Fear is a natural reaction to moving closer to the truth.” – Pema Chӧdrӧn

“When you realize nothing is lacking, the whole world belongs to you.” – Lao Tzu

“Everything is created twice, first in the mind and then in reality.” – Robin Sharma

“When we get too caught up in the busyness of the world, we lose connection with one another – and ourselves.” – Jack Kornfield

“You cannot stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.” – Jon Kabat-Zinn

Now the toughest question: Which one is your favorite?

  1. I used to collect quotes like a fiend! Now, I mostly just try to distill my own quotes from the many quips and queries I answer/posit. Why can’t I quote myself? Granted, my favourite quote is by epicurus, “if it folly for a man to pray to the god for what he had the power to obtain by himself”

  2. I feel like quotes have so much potential for wisdom, but instead we mainly see them used as back up arguments on essays these days.

    1. They certainly have their place there as by lending voices and words of reputable (or renown) sources, it helps to bolster the validity of the individual’s argument.
I think it’s pretty funny and stupid actually. More often than not, it presents the writer as a hackney wanna-be world influence, whose words hold no sway on their own and so they must piggy back off the words of wisdom (or whatever) coined by someone else.
Since you know, all artists steal their shit. So… yeah. Cheers B-)

      1. My favorite phrases would be:

“Listen; don’t talk…” We have two ears and one mouth so shouldn’t we listen twice as much than we speak?

“Think; don’t assume.” We all know that stinky place from where assumptions are made!

        Thanks for sharing the quotes.

  3. Thanks for the quotes. They’re all thought-provoking, but I’m partial to the Buddha quote, “Our life is shaped by our mind…”. I find focusing on thoughts like this help with anxiety.

      1. Genetics, I think, and the way I obsess over the thought that pop into my head. I’m working on improving – reading buddhism and stoic philosophers. It helps some.
