Depends on the “thing”. Dishes I can’t stand sitting in the sink, so even though I hate doing them… Social events? Depends on my level of anxiey. Sometimes I don’t create an excuse, I just say no thank you.
If it’s something for myself (like laundry), I try to convince myself that it doesn’t need to be done… But then I do it anyway. Lol If it is something for someone else, like an invitation to an event that I don’t want to go to, I gently tell them the truth: I don’t want to go. 😅 (Is that bad?) I subscribe to the belief that it is better to tell a sour truth than a sweet lie. But that’s just me. 😉
Excellent question! If it’s someone that doen’t know me yet, not very well. But those who know me, like friends and family, have grown to appreciate the honesty.

I lie; not big lies, little white lies: didn’t sleep well, big day tomorrow, no transportation, fill in the blank. I’m not ashamed of this because I know people prefer not to hear the truth.
When asked to do or go anywhere anything that dosen’t go down well with me.

I agree with the above comments…if said thing also includes spending money, I’ll always go with the classic, “Sorry, I can’t go…I’m trying to save money.”
Because I don’t want to do it, because I’m bored, because I have something better to do, because it’s not my job, because it’s not what I really want to do, because I can’t afford to do it, and the list goes on and on..

It’s totally fine to not wanting to to something, regardless if it involves ourselves or others.
If it’s about others, I kindly say no.
I don’t make excuses for myself, I rearrange my schedule
Or do something “else” in the now. Instead of focusing on the thing that need to be done, focus on the now, and do something else now.
For me at least 🤦🏾♂️

I’m not good at saying no. I usually do the thing or go to the place asked of me. 😒
I’m pretty mean to me. I’ll tell me no all the time.

I deny rarely 😕 Mostly i say ‘no’ to the person who advice me to learn to say ‘no’. I rearrange my works and even my priorities to do what i am asked for. Sometimes, i do say no and end up doing the same denied stuffs while saying it!!!
I’m not up to it, didn’t sleep well because of my ME/CFS. Believe it or not I don’t use this excuse much. At the moment because I’m on a good run with my ME/CFS I’m saying while I’m feeling better I’m only doing what I want to spend my energy on 😊
That’s got me a bit, that question. I just do everything on my terms. There’s no bills to pay, morgage, I have very ltitle commitments. I don’t go to weddings or see family if I don’t like them. I don’t really know how to answer that.

Well, I think that some things don’t even worth the effort nor the time so I very much understand the idea around social events. 🙂
“I have to go help them they need me over there.” It seems noble to put others first, and there I go.
And it also excuses you from any potential blame, I guess.

Interesting! How do people react when you tell them you don’t want to go?

Fortunately (or unfortunately) they do prefer not to hear the truth especially when the lies make them ego feel better.
It’s been a long week. I’m tired. I don’t have time for this.
Cut straight to the point I see
Haha, yep!
What kind of situations make you use this excuse?
Usually somethi g that a roommate needs help with, haha! Or some tedious chore that I really don’t enjoy doing.
Give me a moment to think about it, then I most likely will do it if is an OK thing with me.
And if it’s not an OK thing with you?
I’m too tired
And how often are you too tired?
Mostly I’m not feeling alright at the moment.
For which situations do you apply this? Can you give an example with the last time you used it?
When asked to do or go anywhere anything that dosen’t go down well with me.
I agree with the above comments…if said thing also includes spending money, I’ll always go with the classic, “Sorry, I can’t go…I’m trying to save money.”
I can relate very much with this money thing! I use it all the time!
Stomach ache and head ache in childhood ……
Pretending as moody now ………
Others will let go…..
What if they insist?
I ask myself, “Is this the most efficient use of my time?” I usually say no and end up getting frustrated with the mundane necessities of life.
So that efficiency is not related to emotions, right?
I’ve an engagement tonight.
That’s very interesting! What is the reaction?
They pretty much accept it as it is 😅 i feel a bit guilty when I say this
I don’t feel good and/or I’m tired. Of course this isn’t usually entirely an excuse! 🤣
So you often feel tired or you don’t feel good?
Prettyyy much all the time! 😝
I don’t excuse, I procrastinate
Procrastination doesn’t involve some form of excuse?
I don’t want to do it
What do you answer when the “why” question comes up?
Because I don’t want to do it, because I’m bored, because I have something better to do, because it’s not my job, because it’s not what I really want to do, because I can’t afford to do it, and the list goes on and on..

I don’t make excuses for myself, I rearrange my schedule
Very interesting! Rearranging the schedule can be some form of procrastination since you try to do things later instead of now?

But I am working on it. Hopefully, i’ll learn to stand for myself ✌
So you rarely use excuses?
That’s one way of putting it.
I’m not up to it, didn’t sleep well because of my ME/CFS. Believe it or not I don’t use this excuse much. At the moment because I’m on a good run with my ME/CFS I’m saying while I’m feeling better I’m only doing what I want to spend my energy on 😊
Nice! I hope this good run will continue as much as possible!
Thank you 😊
They might look excuses for others, but for me they are the most reasonable reasons. Self-deception prevails!
Until you realize they’re just excuses…
Absolutely. By the time it’s too late:(
osteoarthritus for painting sisters fence
insanity for pretty much everything else
What if the things you need to do are self-imposed? What excuses do you use then?
