I prefer to say killing time, as it is a conscious act act on my part as I am waiting on fate to intervene. There is a time for everything,I think, and until then it’s time to kill.
I do some touring on my bicycle, just completed a ride from Bangkok to Saigon, and now just run my Internet business and supporting my brother’s Internet startup in Vietnam while waiting for him to get investment and be my potential retirement fund…ha

“Wasting time” is when I am not doing something productive. It’s when I watch the same movie for the 50th time, or when I scroll endlessly through social media with no real objective. If I am learning or actually doing something that benefits me or someone else then the time is not wasted.
So living (or actually existing) without purpose is time wasted… I’m thinking now to all those people that don’t have a purpose in life and they’re not willing to find one.
Wasting time, in my book, is doing something that is not helping me grow as a human being. My time is spent reading, thinking, and writing. I feel awful if I spend my time watching television if it is not adding to my human database of knowledge. If I do watch TV, I prefer documentaries. I try to give myself downtime, but even then I must be learning something! Everything else to me is Just a Waste of Time!! 😉
Too often, I’ve been cutting back on social media usage though-which is one of, if not the biggest time waster of all-so that’s a start. Unfortunately, social media doesn’t contribute to my happiness or end goal, but yet I still somehow manage to make it apart of my daily life.
So true. It’s a well-known fact among my friends that I tend to push myself too hard in general. Last night I started Black Mirror season 5. 🙂

Going about something in an illogical or slower manner than it could be done… From my perspective, during the working day it is (in my head) logical to be as time efficient as possible to get as much done in a day as possible. Watching people go about tasks in an illogical/slow way makes me really frustrated as that is literally wasting time… Even my employer has asked me to not use my time saving methods on occasion as he doesn’t understand how his methods could possibly be improved upon. So yes. Illogical methods/techniques waste time. That is my take on the question!
LOL. Only every day! I am easily distracted I guess. I always come back to the task at hand but it takes twice as long with all the side trips…

Wasting time is doing things that aren’t of any benefit or aren’t needed.
I can take a day to do nothing. But if I needed the rest, I haven’t wasted time.
So I guess it depends on the person.
Organizing time helps. I can travel for 6 hours and just listen to music. Or I can get my class audios lined up to listen to. That way the time spent was productive. On the other hand, if I needed to take a break from school and just listen to music then it was not wasting time. It just depends on what is needed at that moment and time management for productivity.
I do some touring on my bicycle, just completed a ride from Bangkok to Saigon, and now just run my Internet business and supporting my brother’s Internet startup in Vietnam while waiting for him to get investment and be my potential retirement fund…ha
I FUCKING HATE the words “wasting time” HATE IT!
Like show me the time u “saved” and I’ll show u the time I “wasted” and then the both of us can die eventually
WTF!
An artist looks like she’s wasting time to a dishwasher and a physicist looks like he’s wasting time to a CEO
Guess what
1. “Wasting time” is a passive aggressive, holier than thou abuse
2. If we say this to ourselves, we’re abusing ourselves
Thank you for this great comment! For me, wasting time is not opposite for saving time. As Ceeyar said below: if I watch the same movie 50th time, for me it’s wasting time because I could be doing something productive, like writing or answering to comments. This is why the personal approach it’s required. What’s wasting time for me might be the opposite for someone else.
None of us HAVE time to “waste” Bogdan ….. this is a great truth that is hiding in plain sight 😊
It’s so like us – arrogant humans – to assume the responsibility for time
The insidious thing really is guilt and fear and a dash of self-loathing. With that as the baseline emotions, we’ll use anything to reinforce them. The days we are “productive” we’ve been so useful and we feel on top of the world. Then the inevitable “time wasting” days arrive and we use it to reinforce our baseline emotions
Time is an emotional and spiritual construct that mostly harms people
Take time out of the equation – if u can – who would you be? What would you do?
“Wasting time” is a term, I’m told from colleagues in mental health, that generate a frantic feeling of earning the right to be alive and exist and not utilising it and therefore justifying the feeling of worthlessness (a baseline emotion)

From a literally and an objective point of view, yes, you’re totally right. We don’t HAVE the time. We basically co-exist with it. However, the things we do can be useful for us or not while time passes by. 🙂

Not being productive or doing something that pleases me
I guess it’s like when I know I have things to do but I decide to watch tv or scroll through social media. It’s not productive if it’s not helping me to achieve a goal or task
No.. I may have to moderate at times due to unforeseen circumstances (weather, illness, etc)… 🙂

Wasting time//killing time whatever you call it, I seriously enjoy it? Like right now, I’m home on disability due to Stage IV NSCLC treatable, but not curable, so I am wasting a lot of time. But it is time worth spending. I’m able to think about writing again, cooking/baking, watching my favorite shows, stuffing my face (I lost 30 lbs on 3 weeks due to chemo). Learning to walk and use the stairs (got really weak – not a waste of time I suppose). Watching really bad talk shows that piss me off is my best way of wasting time😊
I’m very sorry you have to go through such difficulties. I believe that the time worth spending is not wasted. Only the time that it is not worth spending can be called wasted time…
Think about the bad things happened in the past
How often do you do it?
More often than the good things
Not utilizing the opportunities given to better someone’s existence or your own.
I prefer to say killing time, as it is a conscious act act on my part as I am waiting on fate to intervene. There is a time for everything,I think, and until then it’s time to kill.
Fair point. How do you kill your time?

True! Time spent with learning is not actually time spent… it’s time invested because it will pay off eventually 🙂
Not living. Waiting for a bus, or some other mode of transport. Not being productive or actually restful. Basically taking up space without purpose.
So living (or actually existing) without purpose is time wasted… I’m thinking now to all those people that don’t have a purpose in life and they’re not willing to find one.

I agree! We need to use our time to grow and evolve 🙂
Wasting an opportunity.
As not taking it or taking it but failing to do something useful with it?
Not taking it, you wouldn’t have wasted the opportunity if you gave it a try.
Wasting time for me is not doing anything productive.
If you think about a normal day, how much time do you consider you waste?
Oh that’s an easy one, doing anything that doesn’t contribute to my end goal or happiness is a waste of time In my book
How often do waste time?
Too often, I’ve been cutting back on social media usage though-which is one of, if not the biggest time waster of all-so that’s a start. Unfortunately, social media doesn’t contribute to my happiness or end goal, but yet I still somehow manage to make it apart of my daily life.
If it truly is wasted, then it’s a tragedy
True…
I rarely consider myself wasteful, but if I had to choose, I would say when I’m relaxing watching tv when I should be writing my book.
We need some relaxation from time to time… great ideas can come from relaxation too 🙂

Well, when there is a known better way to do things, why shouldn’t do it? It makes no sense…
Doing anything aside from what I should be doing!🙃
How often does that happen for you?
LOL. Only every day! I am easily distracted I guess. I always come back to the task at hand but it takes twice as long with all the side trips…

Nice! So if it’s purposefully, it’s not wasted 🙂
When I cannot put a stop to non – sensical thoughts and they debilitate me.
Write them down as often as possible… it’s probably the only way…

Yes, especially if it gets to no conclusion.
Not getting a Roi.
Sometimes it’s tough to quantify, but I guess it depends of what returns are expected.
Unwillingness to learn 😊 Stuck in the past, stuck in the future, doubts and assumption like What If. 🌟
So worrying about the things we cannot control 🙂
Yes like that 😊

Can you give an example of a behavior that is wasting your time?
I guess it’s like when I know I have things to do but I decide to watch tv or scroll through social media. It’s not productive if it’s not helping me to achieve a goal or task
Letting negative people invade my thoughts.
I really hope that doesn’t happen too often…
In my view, it is not possible to waste time.
How come?
Not living life my way… 🙂
Does that happen to you?
No.. I may have to moderate at times due to unforeseen circumstances (weather, illness, etc)… 🙂
