Like an elusive vapor, my reflection floats, then gently fades before my eyes.

Like a favorite novel, its binding and its pages warp with the inevitable passing of time.

Yet its story–its spirit–stays the same.

. . .

When I look in the mirror I see a woman on the cusp of her 34th year.

I see curls. I see green eyes. I see skin as pale as coffee cream.

It’s weird to think of everything this body has been through:

My arrival on this planet, via cesarean section;

scrapes and sores of childhood;

physical transformations of adolescence;

work;

stress;

childbirth.

Yet, here I am. Ready for more.

. . .

When I look in the mirror, I see a woman who won’t give up.

I see a person who may be misunderstood, disrespected, or written off as an idealist.

I blink. I brush my teeth. I put on lip gloss and smile.

Because all I can do is keep trying.

I will continue to put my best foot forward.

I will show love to myself, my friends, and my community.

Because I’m still here.

The moment we decide to accept ourselves and start loving ourselves that is the moment when everything around us changes. So lets keep enlightening ourselves with happy and motivating thoughts and rule the world. keep shining and sharing.
