GOLD MEDALS, NATIONAL ANTHEMS AND THE OLYMPICS

Billy Osogo

The Olympics are often an exciting time in Kenya. That we have some of the finest athletes on the planet is not contention. The Tokyo 2020 Olympics was another time to showcase our world class talent.

Watching the Greatest of All Time, Eliud Kipchoge, dominate his race was a thing of beauty. A moment of pride.

What stood out for me however, was the undeniable resilience of Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon. The still shot of her win reveals a pregnancy scar on her stomach. She gave birth not too long ago and put on 8kgs as a result.

I can only imagine the pressure she must have been in to feed her baby, heal and get in shape in time for the Olympics. The strength of women is too underrated!

Where did watch the Olympics from?

What was your favorite moment?

  1. Watched from India where we did much better than before. Watching Nirav lifting the gold in javelin throwing, was a good moment. The two young girls who won a bronze each, despite huge obstacles, also bears out your comment on women’s strength being too underrated.

  2. I didn’t follow it closely but I watched it every now and then. I watched it from Spain but cheered Poland all the way. Seeing Alessandra Mirosล‚aw in speed climbing was something out of this world! She broke the world record and truly looked like a spiderwoman! ๐Ÿ˜ณ

  3. I am from the U.S. The local sports section of my paper wrote extensively about the two Kenyan women and their feat in the marathon. How they would support each other in the heat passing water between themselves. It was grace and beauty in action.

  4. Fantastic post! How underrated these ladies are! The world needs to know about them. I didnโ€™t, until I read this post. Some impressive feat!

I did cry every time my country won a medal ๐Ÿฅฒ Apart from that, one of my favourite moments from the Olympics was when 2 men (Italy and Qatar) decided to share an Olympic GOLD for high jump. A rare, historic moment!
Now after reading this post, this woman is definitely making the list! Much respect to her! ๐Ÿ™

  5. Watched from home and my favorite moment was watching our country mates; Cheptegei and Chemtai win goldโค๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Œ and hearing our national anthem played twice as a result at the Olympics๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐ŸŽˆ
