HELLO SEPTEMBER!

Billy Osogo

Hello September!

It’s the ninth month of the year! Three more months and 2021 is a wrap! I know it’s been one heck of a year already! What with the mutating variants of COVID-19, what with the weather, what with the economy!

We often set our goals for the year early in January. One of my goals was to read 60 books by the end of the year. I figured if I read five books a month, I’d hit 60 comfortably in December. Of course, life happened. There are months I fell off track but I am almost there.

What were some of your goals for this year? How far are you in realizing them nine months on?

While you are at it, here’s a quote from Elif Shafak’s Forty Rules of Love to power you through the rest of the year:

“Patience does not mean to passively endure. It means to be farsighted enough to trust the end result of a process. What does patience mean? It means to look at the thorn and see the rose, to look at the night and see the dawn.

PS: September, please behave!

  1. My goal is to get through this year with my health intact, two novels written and ready to be published. I’m way behind in my plan but there have been other pleasant surprises that weren’t part of the initial plan. That’s life – the good, the bad, and the planned. It’s only when plans happen or don’t happen that they fall into the category of good or bad. Otherwise, they are just contemplation with a neutral face.
Times have been tough for everyone. But I have realized that nothing is more precious than one’s health. If you have it, you’ll overcome any hurdle. Let’s hope the coming months bring a turn in the grim scenario. Lots of peace and good health to everyone. Thanks for sharing this, Billy. 🙂

  2. I have set the book reading challenge to 52 this year. I am at 45 now and happy with the progress. What is convincing is that am exploring non fictional books and made me to understand that it can be fun and engaging read. And have started writing some poetic thoughts and published on the blog which I skipped for 3 plus years due to ill health.

  3. Love the passage from Elif Sharak about patience, looking ahead and trusting the end result, made vivid and affectively real by the imagery. It also brings to mind another bit about patience that I return to, reframing patience as constancy, as Master Suzuki says somewhere.

  4. My goal remains simply to live today as though it were my last, thankful yesterday wasn’t, in the venue of Amy Carmichael’s advice . . . “Live to Love.Love to Live”.

  5. This month should behave 😂.
I have had many goals, but the most important one has been a financial goal.
I had a target on my savings,I have gotten out of track severally.
    But we’re back.👐

  6. Love this Billy..My goals? Continue with writing, blogging and constantly learning more about the art (with a few published articles/poems). Also to keep moving forward, no matter how tiny those steps are 😉 😊🙌

  7. Wow, I love that quote! I can’t think what my goals were for this year… I never take the activity of setting goals for the year too seriously. Maybe next year I’ll set some resolutions!

  8. My goals…were to stand on my own feet, so I could divorce my husband of 20 yrs. But what happened was I got more confident as I got healthier, and we got closer. Now I’m busy, and he has a small business that I help with, running the website.
