Hope

Hello there! How are you doing today? How was the week? I had a relaxing week. This is the last calm week before the storm so I am trying to make the most of it.

Here is the question for today: If you were to to explain what keeps us together and helps us going in one word, what would that word be? I would say ‘hope’.

Life is hard. We face a lot of difficulties. Sometimes, those difficulties push us to the edge and we want to give up. But we are still here. What keeps us going? I think it is hope. Hope that things will be better. Hope that maybe things can change. Hope that we will be heard. Even if we feel terrible on the outside, I believe that there is a little corner inside of us where hope resides. We do not feel it directly but it still operates. I think hope got me through last year’s struggles. I was at my worst times (may it stay the worst) but I still got through it. I think it was my hope that things would improve that made is possible. It was my hope that still made me finish up my dissertation in between tears, get my life-coaching certificate and eventually find a job. Without that hope, I would probably have not done much.

I think hope is the ultimate feeling that we have that makes life possible. It is hope that helps us keep trying in our usual daily lives. We continue doing what we do and maybe even improve our situation because we hope for a better life and a better future. Do you agree? Are there other reasons we keep going (I am thinking responsibility can be another -being responsible for a family, company etc)). Have you noticed how hope keeps you going? Let me know!

  1. Thank you, Betul, for sharing another thought-provoking post.

For me, “appreciation” is more powerful, for what is here and now.

Wishing you a great upcoming week! 🙏

      1. Hi Betul,

It is from the persepctive of the “person,” which we’ve been conditioned to accept as our identity. Through higher awareness, we transcend that. It’s as though we witness the person, who, quite naturally only desires to experience pleasurable events. That perspective is, however, dualistic. We literally cannot not know happiness, without sadness; right, without left; up, without down. Thus, to hope only for glad times, leaves us chasing endlessly. It can take quite a while to realize; but most beings eventually do.

In deeper spiritual teachings, we realize that it is not the possessions, or person, or achievement that actually brings the sense of fulfilment. It is actually the ending of the “desire” for life to be other than it is, here and now.

I hope that that has offered something of value.

        Art 🙏

  2. Thank you for sharing!!..while I agree that hope is needed, I will have to go with the “heart”, where hope resides… “Don’t be pushed around by the fears in your mind. Be led by the dreams in your heart.” (Roy T. Bennett )… 🙂

    Until we meet again..
    May your day be touched
by a bit of Irish luck,
    Brightened by a song
    in your heart,
    And warmed by the smiles
    of people you love.
    (Irish Saying)

      1. I think you may be confusing your heart with the mind… if, however, the heart does say that, perhaps there is a reason for it, or perhaps cannot do it in the manner the mind wishes to… 🙂

      2. It is not easy, but in the end you and your heart will know… 🙂

“I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you can appreciate them when they’re right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together”… (Marilyn Monroe)

  3. I think that’s very well said. I too agree. Hope is what keeps us alive. If someone loses all hopes in life, life becomes very painful.

  4. Totally empathize and agree with you! Hope is something so precious that we must hold onto it until our last breath. When I’m at my lowest – I repeat Emily Dickinson’s poem – “I Dwell in Possibility” – “The spreading wide my narrow hands to gather paradise.” This always makes me feel more hopeful.
